Soldier, militant killed in north Kashmir encounter

A soldier and an unidentified militant were killed as fierce encounter took place in the forest of the frontier district of Kupwara, official sources said here on Tuesday.

They said troops of 30 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) launched a search operation at Harrel Manzpora forest last night following a tip-off about the presence of militants.

When the troops were moving into the forest, militants opened fire with automatic weapons.
The troops retaliated in which a soldier was injured.

The injured soldier later died, they said, adding, a militant was also killed.

However, the body of the militant was not recovered so far.

The operation was still going on when the reports last came in.
