A health department official said on Monday that an urban health centre will be built in Sector 16, a poly clinic at Sector 26 and a new dispensary at Sector 19. Both staff and budget have been allocated for the three, said Dr VK Bansal, Panchkula district medical superintendent.

"The centres will boost medical health facilities in the town," he added.
The urban health centre in Sector 16 will be unlike existing dispensaries and have five doctors and eight nurses in its staff, Bansal said. "The centre will be equipped to handle emergency cases. We also plan to keep it open beyond the scheduled working hours of a health centre."

The centre is expected to take the work load off the general hospital in Sector 6, he said.

While the health centre will have five doctors, the new dispensary will be functional with two doctors, on the lines of existing dispensaries. The health department official said the centres had been planned strategically, keeping in mind the slums surrounding these sectors.
