Speeding car kills 16-year-old girl; five hurt

A 16-year-old girl was killed and five others, including three children, sustained serious injuries after the rehri they were travelling in was hit by a rashly-driven car near the housing board light point around 9.30pm on Sunday.

Manimajra SHO inspector Charanjit Singh said the deceased was identified as Urmila Devi, a resident of Rajiv Colony. She, along with five others, all residents of Rajiv Colony, were on their way home when they were hit by a black Honda City, which fled towards Panchkula.

The police were informed and the victims were rushed to the PGIMER where Urmila was declared brought dead. Jasbir Singh, Raj Kumari and three children Golu, Chandani and Arti have sustained injuries.

The body has been kept in the hospital mortuary and would be handed over to the family after post-mortem. A case under sections 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), and 304A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC had been registered.

Till the filing of the report, the police were yet to know the identity of the accused.
