Police and locals said special police officer (SPO) Riyaz-ul-Hasan and rifleman Tariq Ahmad Mir of the 5 J&K Light Infantry (JAKLI), both residents of Sopore town, were shot at when they were busy chatting near Zainageer canal in the village. While Riyaz died on the spot, Tariq, who was shot in the shoulder, ran to some villagers and was shifted to a hospital in Srinagar.
"We have launched a manhunt. The killers won't be spared," said a police spokesman.
