In the case of alleged abduction of proclaimed offender Sumedh Gulati, suspended inspector general of police Gautam Cheema has claimed that he did not visit the police station concerned on the night of the incident.

According to police sources, during questioning for around 40 minutes on Wednesday, Cheema claimed that he was present at Max hospital and not at the police station, and Gulati had reached the hospital separately.

Investigation officer Pawan Kumar said they had called Cheema, an accused in the case of abduction of Gulati on August 30 from the Phase 1 police station, to record his statement.

Later, Cheema went to the Mataur police station, where he has been booked for molesting a woman. Cheema was questioned there for some time.

While confirming this, SAS Nagar SSP Inder Mohan Singh said Cheema had joined the investigation in connection with the two cases and was questioned in routine.

In both the cases, the Punjab and Haryana high court had granted interim bail to Cheema.
