Haryana government has constituted Haryana State Commission for Minorities to safeguard the interests of minorities communities of the state, an official release said on Friday.
A Congress leader from Karnal, Trilochan Singh, was appointed as chairman of the commission, while Ishaq Mohammed, an advocate and local Congress leader from Mewat; Dr Stella Portar, an AICC member and Harbhajan Singh Khera, a local party leader, both from Rohtak, would be other members of the commission.
The release said that the commission would examine, investigate and monitor all matters relating to the safeguards for the minority communities under the Constitution of India. The Commission would have five members who would hold office for not more than three years.
The other functions of commission included planning process of socio-economic and educational development of the minority communities and to evaluate the progress of their development. It would advise the government on legislative and development policies for the minorities.
