Twin mishaps in Doaba snuff out seven lives
In one incident, four people died after the driver of a Tempo Traveller lost control over the vehicle and collided with a tree. In the second incident, two brothers and their cousin, who were returning from PM Narendra Modi’s rally, were killed in a road accident on Phagwara Road.
Seven people were killed in twin road mishaps in the Doaba region on Saturday.
In one incident, four people, including three women, died in a road accident near Kartarpur, on the Jalandhar-Amritsar national highway after the driver of a Tempo Traveller going towards Beas lost control over the vehicle and collided with a tree.
The victims are Bimla Devi, 50, Sona Devi, 49, Chanchal Devi ,50, and Ram Rattan, 52, of Amb village in Himachal Pradesh. As many as 10 people were injured and are at present undergoing treatment at a local civil hospital.
A case was registered under Sections 304A (causing death by negligence), 279 (rash driving) and 338 (causing grievous hurt by endangering life or personal safety of others) against the driver Ram Kishan, who is undergoing treatment at a civil hospital.
Three killed while returning from Modi’s rally
In the second incident, two brothers and their cousin, who were returning from PM Narendra Modi’s rally, were killed in a road accident on Phagwara Road on Friday evening.
The victims, Som Pal, 20, his brother Rahul, 22 and cousin Rama Shankar, were vegetable vendors from Phagwara . The scooter they were riding on was first hit by a bus and then a truck-trailer, police said.
A case was registered for causing death by negligence and rash driving under the IPC. The truck-trailer driver has been arrested.
