Two arrested for auto theft

Two men were arrested for auto theft after the police found the Maruti car they were travelling in bore fake licence plates on Tuesday. The police have impounded the vehicle and also recovered 10 mobile towers' batteries. Baljit Singh, a resident of Jhajjar, Haryana, and Ramesh, a resident of Zirakpur, were stopped at a police check point near Vikas Nagar in Mauli Jagran for a routine check.

After the two failed to produce the car's papers, the police began questioning them and found that they had lifted the vehicle from Ambala.




A local court remanded the duo to police custody. The police said they were likely to recover more stolen goods from the suspects. The two have been booked under sections 473 (counterfeiting a seal, plate, etc. with intent to commit a forgery), 411 (stolen property), 420 (cheating), 120-B (criminal conspiracy), 468 (forgery of valuable security) and 471 (using as genuine a forged document) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Manimajra police station.
