Vigilance bureau arrests JE, kanungo in graft cases

The Punjab vigilance bureau (VB) on Thursday caught a junior engineer (JE) of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) and a senior revenue official (kanungo) taking bribe in separate cases.

The Punjab vigilance bureau (VB) on Thursday caught a junior engineer (JE) of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) and a senior revenue official (kanungo) taking bribe in separate cases.

Junior engineer Prem Nath of Kot Isse Khan village in Moga district was arrested from his office by a VB team led by deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Bikramjit Singh while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 for the installation of a domestic power supply connection.

The trap was laid on the complaint of Sukhpal Singh of Talwandi Nohbahar village, who had stated that the accused was demanding bribe for the purpose.

The JE was arrested under sections 7 and 13 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The case was registered at the Ferozepur VB police station, VB chief director-cum-DGP Suresh Arora said here.

In another case, kanungo Jarnail Singh was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000
from a complainant in Jalandhar.

He was caught taking bribe from the complainant, Baljit Singh, for demarcation of a plot at Santoshi Nagar, Jalandhar. Jarnail was arrested under the same sections of the Act. The case was registered at the Jalandhar VB police station.
