Chandigarh Youth Congress (CYC) staged a protest against the increase in rail fare and freight by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government at the Centre at Sector 34-35 light point.
CYC slammed the hike in railway fare and freight charges and called for immediate roll back of the decision.
CYC vice-president, Harmail Kesri said hike would severely affect the poor and lead to steep increase in prices of essential commodities.
He criticised the Modi government and said government had taken a ‘u turn’ and now taking decisions which would badly affect poor people.
The CYC vice-president added that increase in the railway fare meant increase in the cost in transport in food items, which in turn would lead to inflation in food prices.
CYC workers also bur nt the effigies of Prime Minister Modi and railways minister DV Sadananda Gowda.
