Devarakere Lake in Bengaluru's ISRO Layout is one of the few lakes in the city that has not been encroached upon. The lake, which was once barren, is now brimming with water once more. The lake, which covers 7.2 acres and serves as a playground for youngsters, is now also home to a variety of bird species.

The Devarakere Samrakshana Vedhike Walkers' Association was created by a group of locals to help revitalize the lake. The lake was restored with the help of local leaders and locals. The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), the city's civic body, has put aside 1.3 crore to repair the lake. In addition, the BBMP is constructing a jogging track as well as a gate around the lake.

While commenting on the construction, a contractor told The Indian Express, “Fencing, gates, and a running track are all in the works. The BBMP is also constructing a drainage system. We're hoping to finish the project before the end of the month.”

Lake conservator Raghavendra B Pachhapur provided additional details, stating that the lake is not only lush with flora, but also includes trees, bushes, and creepers on two sides. He noted that because the lake is naturally located in the lower section of the area, it has the power to attract rainwater from three sides of the waterbody.

According to a story in the English daily, Pachhapur claimed to have seen 15 distinct species of birds in a matter of hours, including the Indian Golden Oriole and Oriental Magpie Robin.

Meanwhile, the city's engineers have been instructed to concentrate on rainwater harvesting to help maintain high water quality. The lake already has two stormwater drains that need to be made fully functional. The lake also has a temple of Lord Srinivasa.
