Bengaluru air quality: City among 10 most polluted in India on Monday morning

Bengaluru recorded an air quality index (AQI) of 101 at 7.30 Monday and ranked 6th among the most polluted cities in the country at that time. According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board, Punjab's Rupnagar topped the chart with an AQI of 141, followed by Patna, Dharuhera, Delhi and Chandrapur with readings of 113, 114, 106 and 104, respectively.
By 1pm Monday, the AQI in Bengaluru was back to satisfactory levels - it came down to 67.
However, BTM Layout continued to record a reading of 101 and it was registered as the most polluted area in the city.
An AQI value above 100 is considered moderately severe and something that might cause difficulties in people with breathing problems, according to the CPCB.
Rising pollution levels in Bengaluru have been worrying citizens for a while now.
In January, a report by an organisation called Green India said Bengaluru ranked among 10 south Indian cities with air pollution greater than World Health Organization standards (WHO).
CPCB and the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board located 10 monitoring stations to track pollution levels across the city. BTM Layout, Bapuji Nagar, Hombegowda Nagar, Jayanagar 5th block, City Railway station, Saneguruvanahalli, Hebbal, Silk Board, Peenya and BWSSB Kadubeesanahalli are where the pollution is monitored in Bengaluru.
