Bengaluru's iconic food street 'Thindi Beedi' to get facelift: Report
To manage the crowd, the street will get dedicated sitting areas and cobblestones will be installed on the road.
Bengaluru’s iconic ‘Thindi Beedi’ or the food street is all set to be revamped by the civic body, The Hindu reported. To manage the crowd, the street will get dedicated sitting areas and cobblestones will be installed on the road.
The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) recorded heavy footfalls at Thindi Beedi, making the already bustling street overcrowded. The crowd also leads to severe traffic jams in the peak hours, especially after 6pm, the report added.
“Food vendors at Thindi Beedi requested to develop the street with the latest infrastructural facilities. It has become a challenge to accommodate the swelling crowds at the street currently, hence, the BBMP decided to remodel the street just like the recently renovated Commercial Street in the city,” BBMP zonal commissioner Jayaram Raipura said.
Renovation works will reportedly begin this month and the cost of the project is expected to be ₹5 crore. “It will take six months to finish the work and we will begin the renovation this month. This infrastructural work will benefit both food vendors and customers at this iconic spot,” added the officer.
Earlier, the crowded Church street area in the heart of Bengaluru was also paved with cobblestones.
