Karnataka home minister Araga Jnanendra on Sunday supported the government's decision to rename the Salaam Aarti ritual and said such decisions help strengthen Indian culture. Muzrai Minister Sashikala Jolle on Saturday said, "It has been decided that Deevatige Salaam will be renamed as Deevatige Namaskara, Salaam Aarti will be called Aarti Namaskara and Salaam Manalarathi as Mangalarathi Namaskara.”

Rituals like 'Salaam Aarti', 'Salaam Mangalarathi' and 'Deevatige Salaam’ are from the Mysuru king Tipu Sultan's era that have been performed in temples around the Mysuru region for centuries now.

Sashikala Jolle also told that the decision was also taken after following demands of devotees and after conducting a meeting with the members of 'Karnataka Rajya Dharmika Parishad'

Meanwhile, former CM of Karnataka HD Kumaraswamy slammed the ruling BJP for not focusing on the real issues and trying to tamper with history. In a response to the name change, HD Kumaraswamy said, “BJP doesn’t want to focus on real issues; therefore, they’re raking up such things. They want to change the history and our old cultures”
