2 children drown in water pit in Paonta’s Nihalgarh
According to police, five children from the nearby Nihalgarh area had gone to bathe in Jambukhala in Paonta subdivision on Sunday evening. One child suddenly went into deep water while bathing and started drowning. While trying to save him, the other child also drowned.

Two children drowned in a deep water-filled pit at Jambukhala in the Nihalgarh area of Paonta in Sirmaur district on Sunday while three were rescued, police said on Monday. The deceased are nine-year-old and eight-year-old.
According to police, five children from the nearby Nihalgarh area had gone to bathe in Jambukhala in Paonta subdivision on Sunday evening. One child suddenly went into deep water while bathing and started drowning. While trying to save him, the other child also drowned.
Upon receiving information about the incident, a team from the Puruwala police reached the spot and, with the help of local residents, rescued three other children and handed them over to their families.
Paonta Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Manvendra Singh Thakur said that with the help of local divers, a search for the missing children began in the dark in Jambukhala.
After considerable effort, their bodies were recovered from the deep pit. Both were rushed to Paonta Hospital, where doctors declared them dead, he added.
The bodies of both children have been kept at the Civil Hospital in Paonta Sahib for post-mortem examination and will be handed over to their families.
