₹480-cr canal upgrade to benefit Rohtak, Jhajjar, Sonepat, says minister Shruti Choudhry
Haryana will invest ₹480 crore to upgrade irrigation infrastructure, boosting capacity of key canals to enhance water supply for agriculture in Rohtak, Jhajjar, and Sonepat.
: Haryana irrigation and water resources minister Shruti Choudhry announced an irrigation infrastructure upgrade aimed at strengthening water supply to agricultural fields across Rohtak, Jhajjar and Sonepat districts. The minister said the state government would undertake a ₹480-crore project to enhance the carrying capacity of the Bhaloth sub-branch and Jhajjar sub-branch canals.
During an inspection of various canal networks in Rohtak district, Choudhry said the Bhaloth sub-branch, stretching over 1.56 lakh feet, and the Jhajjar sub-branch, spanning 62,000 feet, currently have a carrying capacity of 2,052 cusecs.
“Under the proposed project, the capacity of both canals will be increased to 2,700 cusecs to ensure better distribution of irrigation water across the region. The project will significantly improve water availability for farmers and strengthen the irrigation network in Rohtak, Jhajjar and Sonipat districts. Enhanced water supply will help boost agricultural productivity and contribute to the growth of the rural economy,” the minister said.
Earlier, Choudhry visited the residence of the BJP teachers’ cell district convener, Kultaj Singh, where she interacted with party workers and local residents.
