82-year-old man killed after two cars collide in Ludhiana

An 82-year-old man died in a head-on collision between two cars on Samrala Road on Saturday morning while he was driving his daughter to a hospital for dialysis.

His daughter, Ravinder Kaur Pinky, a retired lecturer, has suffered injuries and is undergoing treatment at a hospital, police said.

The deceased, Gurdeep Singh, a resident of Mian Mohalla in Machhiwara, had been suffering from kidney disease. He was taking his daughter to the hospital when their car collided with a vehicle approaching from the Samrala side.

According to police, Gurdeep sustained critical injuries and was rushed to Khanna Hospital. He was later referred to another hospital due to his condition but succumbed to his injuries in the evening.

The police took both damaged vehicles into their possession and shifted the body to the mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

Assistant sub-inspector Pargat Singh, the investigating officer, said further legal action would be taken against the other car’s driver after the family members’ statements were recorded. They fled from the spot after the accident and a hunt is on to trace them.
