The deceased has been identified as Paramjit Singh, who worked as an electrician.

The accused entered Paramjit’s house at around 2 pm on the pretext of meeting the victim’s son, identified as Rajbeer. Upon seeing Paramjit, however, one of them fired four shots at him at point-blank range, the police said.

The bullets hit the victim on the head and chest, leaving him severely injured. He was taken to a private hospital and later to the civil hospital in Jagraon, where he was declared dead by the doctors.

The incident was captured in the closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera installed at the victim’s home. The attackers can be seen arriving at the victim’s house in a car bearing New Delhi’s registration plate, superintendent of police (SP, investigation) Harinderpal Singh said. Police said a total of three persons were involved in the attack; one of them remained seated in the car the entire time, while the other two entered the victim’s house.

Police said the accused first approached one of Paramjit’s neighbours, who is not visible in the video, inquiring about Paramjit’s son Rajbeer who is a professional videographer. They said that they want to meet him to get a video recorded. Paramjit later came to his front yard, where he was attacked. The accused fled from the spot after the incident.

Police said the initial investigation has found that the deceased was involved in an ongoing conflict with a family over a rejected marriage proposal, adding that they are currently trying to trace the suspicious persons.

“The statements of the family members are being recorded and a case will be registered, the officer,” the SP said.

The deceased’s family members said his son had previously received threats and the same has been conveyed to the police.
