Nine persons, involved in illegal mining, were held on Sunday in south Kashmir’s Awantipora, said police on Sunday.

The accused were identified as Muzaffar Ahmad Dar of Kandizal, Shahid Ahmad Hurra of Dangerpora, Gulzar Ahmad Dar, Nawaz Ahmad Dar, Mohammad Abdullah Dar of Kandizal, Shakir Ahmad Dar, Gowhar Ahmad Dar, Manzoor Ahmad Dar all residents of Bijbehara and Jan Mohammad Dar of Kandizal, they added.

“A case has been registered at Awantipora police station under the relevant sections of law,” police spokesman said, adding that this is the 50th FIR registered at the Awantipora police station against illegal mining during the current year, highlighting the J&K police’s sustained and zero tolerance drive against unlawful mining activities.
