Giving the credit for the arrest of two shooters in Sidhu Moose Wala murder case to the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Union government, the party’s state unit chief Ashwani Sharma on Tuesday slammed the Punjab government and police for their “failure” to nab the singer’s assailants.

Sharma, who was speaking to the media persons while canvassing for BJP candidate Kewal Singh Dhillon ahead of the Sangrur Lok Sabha byelection, alleged that earlier the Punjab Police had failed to act on the inputs of central intelligence agencies about threat to the singer’s life and then they failed to arrest his shooters.

Moose Wala was shot dead in Mansa district on May 29, a day after his security cover was scaled down by the state government. Although the Punjab Police have arrested about 10 conspirators, besides bringing mastermind Lawrence Bishnoi on transit remand for questioning, the Delhi Police — which comes under the Centre’s jurisdiction — on Monday claimed to have made a big breakthrough with the arrest of two shooters, including a module head, Priyavrat Fauji.

“The FIR was registered in Punjab but the shooters were arrested by the Delhi Police. This is just an example of how the state government is performing on the issue of law and order,” said Sharma, while lambasting the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) regime in Punjab.

The state BJP chief also hailed the Agnipath recruitment scheme for armed forces, while accusing the opposition parties of misleading the people. “Whatever the Narendra Modi government does, the opposition tries to oppose it every time. They are opposing the scheme without its knowledge and information,” he said.
