Body on bench: Court sends sacked ASI to three-day police custody
The body of the victim, a native of Abohar, who worked at a private hospital in Panchkula was found on a bench near a village pond in Sohana on November 13.
A day after his arrest, a local court sent dismissed assistant sub-inspector Rashpreet Singh, who allegedly killed a 23-year-old nurse after raping her, to three days police custody.
The body of the victim, a native of Abohar, who worked at a private hospital in Panchkula was found on a bench near a village pond in Sohana on November 13. Police on Friday had arrested the accused, who is allegedly her live-in partner.
Though the accused has denied killing the victim, police sought a seven-day remand. The motive behind the killing is yet to be ascertained.The 35-year-old was arrested from Sector 67, Mohali. The accused, who is married and has two children, knew the victim for the past two years.
Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Harsimran Singh Bal said that during questioning, the accused told the police that he was in a live-in relationship with the victim and that she died of excessive alcohol consumption.
He said that the two of them would consume liquor everyday, and on the day of the incident, the woman drank too much and fell unconscious. In a state of panic, he left her on the bench and ran away, instead of taking her to the hospital.
“He should not have moved the body and informed the police instead”, a senior officer said. The woman’s post-mortem report, which was submitted a few days ago, however, stated that the cause of death was “asphyxia due to throttling”.
