UT administrator Banwarilal Purohit on Tuesday approved the Shagun Scheme to provide financial assistance for marriage of women belonging to low-income group families in Chandigarh.

The scheme, which has been formulated by the UT department of social welfare, women and child development, aims to provide financial assistance for marriage of orphan and destitute girls and the remarriage of widows/ destitute women as one-time assistance. The financial assistance amounting to ₹31,000 shall be given to the applicant under this scheme.
The women may avail of financial assistance either for her own marriage or for the marriage of her daughters (upto two daughters). The benefits will be given to daughters of pension holder widows, pension holder destitute women or her re-marriage, disability pension holder women, and daughters of outsourced safai karamcharis and sweepers who are residents of Chandigarh among others.
