As per an official release, a show-cause notice was issued to the bar owners on April 1, 2022, under Rule 14 and Rule 10 of the Chandigarh Estate Rules, 2007, read with Section 8-A of the Capital of Punjab (Development and Regulation Act), 1952, for the violations. But the owners failed to comply with the directions.

Among the various violations, the bar owners have changed the rear elevation and single-storey block/store against the sanctioned plan, covered the open courtyard and constructed unauthorised structures on the terrace of the single-storey block. The total area under violation is 5,317 square feet.

According to the orders of the sub-divisional magistrate (East), the owners were directed to submit a revised building plan within 15 days of the issuance of the April 1 notice for sanctionable/compoundable violations and also remove the non-sanctionable/non-compoundable violations.

However, the owners failed to comply with the SDM’s orders, following which the building branch of the Estate Office sealed the bar on Monday.

Earlier in June 2022, the UT administration had warned the bar against playing music beyond the prescribed sound limits following complaints by residents living in its vicinity.
