An outsourced clerk of the central public works department was allegedly caught accepting 30,000 bribe on Wednesday.

The accused, identified as Gaurav, posted in the department’s construction division 2, had allegedly demanded the money to facilitate the release of the pension of the complainant’s father. The vigilance bureau caught him, in the presence of two independent witnesses, while he was allegedly accepting the bribe behind the old UT secretariat building in Sector 9.

Based on the complaint, the vigilance cell registered an FIR under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Police said further investigations are on to ascertain whether any other officials were involved in the alleged bribery racket.
