The three-day All India/International Debate organised by St Johns High School in Sector 26 will conclude on Friday after four teams qualified for the final round on Thursday.
On Thursday, round 3 of the competition was organised, where the topics centered around United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals. In the fourth round, intercontinental issues were discussed and journalists from various publications posed questions to the debaters.
Judges for the third round included motivational speaker Vivek Atray, principal consultant- HR and business change management Abhishek Gupta and senior advocate - Supreme Court Sameer Parekh.
Staff information commissioner Khushwant Singh, assistant director- investigation Aakarshan Singh and SPS Ghai judged the fourth round.
Man held with 52-gram charas
A man from the Sector 16 was arrested with 52-gram charas. The accused, identified as Daman Deep Singh, 23, was arrested from the parking area of Sector-15 market. A drugs case was registered against him.
3 Sec-25 men arrested for gambling
Three men from Sector 25 were arrested for gambling. The accused have been identified as Aman Kumar, Parveen alias Gotu and Akash Kumar alias Satpu. Police recovered ₹4,150 from their possession. A case under Gambling Act was registered against the trio and they were later released on bail.
UIAMS holds blood donation drive
Panjab University’s University Institute of Applied Management Sciences (UIAMS) organised a blood donation drive on its campus on Thursday. The drive was carried out by a team from the civil hospital in Sector 6, Panchkula.
Value added course concludes at PU
A four-day value-added course on “lifestyle disorders and their prevention” organised by the department of biochemistry, Panjab University (PU), concluded on Thursday. As many as 57 students attended the course.
Expert talk organised at PEC
Punjab Engineering College (PEC) organised an expert talk on “English and the digital world: humanities, computing, and engineering” for BTech. 2nd-year students on Thursday. The talk was delivered by John Shanahan, a visiting Fulbright specialist and professor of English a the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, DePaul University, Chicago, He spoke about possibilities of combining disciplines of literature, computing and engineering in a socially relevant manner.
