Chandigarh’s Khushnaz selected in India squad for FIBA U-18 Asia Championship

Khushnaz began playing basketball at the age of 14 while studying at St John’s High School, Sector 26, before continuing his sporting journey at Gurukul Global School

Khushnaz Singh Baidwan, a UT based basketball player has been selected in the Indian team for the prestigious FIBA U-18 Asia Championship, scheduled to be held in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, from August 13 to 23. The tournament will feature 16 teams from the Asia and Oceania region, including Australia, New Zealand, Japan, China, South Korea, the Philippines, Iran, Chinese Taipei, Lebanon, Thailand, Qatar, Kazakhstan, Syria, Sri Lanka, Bahrain and hosts India.

The Chandigarh Basketball Association hailed Khushnaz’s selection as a proud moment for the city. A player of the New Public School Khelo India Accredited Basketball Academy, Khushnaz has emerged as one of the country’s most promising young basketball talents through consistent performances at the national and international levels.

Khushnaz began playing basketball at the age of 14 while studying at St John’s High School, Sector 26, before continuing his sporting journey at Gurukul Global School.

Guided by his father and coach, Jugraj Singh Baidwan, he has steadily developed into a disciplined and accomplished player, representing Chandigarh in several national championships.

His recent international achievements include winning the gold medal with India at the FIBA U-18 SABA Qualifiers held in Sri Lanka in May this year. He was also part of the national coaching camp in Indore ahead of the SABA Qualifiers and has recently completed another national camp in Ahmedabad in preparation for the upcoming continental championship.

At the national level, Khushnaz was a member of the Chandigarh team that finished runners-up at the 74th Junior National Basketball Championship.

He has also represented the city in the Senior National Championship, Junior National Championship, three Youth National Championships and the Khelo India Youth Games 2025.
