The protesting teachers alleged that while colleges have had to include teachers of aided courses, those working on self-financed posts or unaided posts still await their inclusion to the seventh pay scale. This includes those teaching courses like BBA, BCA and some masters courses. There are 24 such teachers in DAV College and 28 such teachers in MCM DAV.

In contrast, the teachers alleged that GGDSD College, Sector 32, has included all 96 teachers employed by them under the seventh pay scales. Principal Ajay Sharma was also recently honoured by the union for being the first grant-in-aid degree college of the city to do this.

DAV College Teachers Union president Sumit Goklaney said both unions have decided to start non-cooperation with the authorities till the revised pay scales are not granted or any written assurance is not issued to them. They have also decided to observe a “black Diwali” this year.

According to the officials, meanwhile, there is a hitch because for aided schools the government will pay the salaries, but for unaided posts, the financial liability will have to be borne by the institute. However, it is expected that it will be cleared in the coming days.

Addressing the issue, principal of MCM DAV College Nisha Bhargava said, “We are considering the demands of the teachers and we urge them to be patient.” Officiating principal of DAV College, Rita Jain, meanwhile, added, “The demand of the teachers will be met soon, we just urge them to be patient.”
