Ferozepur: Police on Saturday arrested an inspector attached to the counter intelligence unit in Faridkot after recovering 3.35 kg of heroin, six illegal pistols, and live ammunition from his vehicle.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Bhupinder Singh Sidhu confirmed the arrest, identifying the officer as inspector Baldev Singh.

Acting on specific intelligence regarding the movement of narcotics and illegal arms, a police team intercepted the accused near the Ferozeshah-Moga road toll plaza.

According to the SSP, inspector Kashmir Singh, the station house officer (SHO) of Ghall Khurd police station, received a tip-off during routine patrolling that Baldev Singh was headed toward Moga in an i20 car (PB-05-AC-6517) carrying contraband.

A search of the vehicle yielded 3.35 kg of heroin, six pistols with magazines, four additional magazines, 17 live cartridges, and six mobile phones.

Police arrested the inspector and registered a case under Section 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act.

They are working to identify the source and destination of the arms and drugs, as well as any broader syndicate or official collusion linked to the officer.
