Don’t interfere in Sikh affairs: Sukhbir to Mann
After meeting the management body of the religious sect, Sukhbir warned chief minister Bhagwant Mann not to interfere in Sikh religious affairs
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Friday evening visited the Banga-based Nabha Kanwal Raja Sahib, where the state government claimed to have traced 169 saroops (sacred copies) of Guru Granth Sahib.
After meeting the management body of the religious sect, Sukhbir warned chief minister Bhagwant Mann not to interfere in Sikh religious affairs, besides accusing the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of committing sacrilege while checking the saroops.
He said a person (Mann), who was himself accused of committing sacrilege on several occasions, had no right to speak on religious affairs.
He added, “The management members informed me that the police party which had come to the shrine was reporting directly to the chief minister. The Sikh maryada (code of conduct) was not followed while conducting this raid.”
Sukhbir said he strongly condemned that the shrine committee was being accused of wrongdoing. “The committee members have been receiving threats for repudiating the government claims that a large number of ‘saroops’ were not accounted for,” Sukhbir alleged.
The SAD president also appealed to the state police to act responsibly and not become a party to disrespecting Guru Granth Sahib at the instigation of the chief minister.
