Summer capital Srinagar recorded a temperature of minus 1.8°C on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday, while mist gathered in the morning. “The weather remained clear in Jammu and hazy in Kashmir,” said MeT deputy director Mukhtar Ahmad.
The daily weather update revealed that all the weather stations in Kashmir recorded freezing temperatures during the night. Pahalgam was the coldest station, with a temperature of minus 4°C, while Bhaderwah in Jammu division recorded a temperature of 3°C.
“The minimum temperature in Jammu was 9.8°C,” Ahmad said, adding, “There is a forecast of dry weather and haze till December 7. The Valley is unlikely to witness any major snow spells,” he said.
Kokernag in south Kashmir was the only weather monitoring station in the Valley where the temperature was above zero at 0.4°C against minus 0.4°C the previous night. In Ladakh, Leh recorded a low of minus 8°C, while the minimum temperature was minus 12.1°C in Drass, the second coldest place in the world after Siberia.
