The interns carried out a protest march within the university campus and submitted a memorandum to vice-chancellor Inderjeet Singh.
The protesting interns said, “ They have been receiving ₹6,200 per student per month, whereas students interning with Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU), Kerala, and Banaras Hindu University are receiving ₹20,000 and ₹23,500 as stipend, respectively. The amount of stipend varies from ₹17,000 to ₹20,000 at veterinary universities in Haryana, Rajasthan and Karnataka.”
“We had started raising the issue two months ago, and had also met animal husbandry and dairy development minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal several times and submitted a memorandum to him. Besides, we had also submitted a memorandum to A Venu Prasad, additional chief secretary to CM Bhagwant Singh Mann, during the CM’s visit to PAU on May 5, yet our demand remains unfulfilled,” they said.
At present, there are 103 students of bachelor of veterinary sciences (BVSc) and animal husbandry (AH) who are interning with GADVASU. They said they will continue to protest peacefully till the time their demands are met.
