Jaipur man held for defrauding cricket team investor of ₹3 crore using vanishing ink pen
The accused carried out an agreement with the victim to organise the CCL. He lured him into spending approximately ₹3 crore, but used a vanishing ink pen to sign the agreement in Mohali in 2019
Four years after a Jaipur resident used a vanishing ink pen to con a Delhi resident, luring him with huge returns on a Celebrity Cricket League (CCL) to be held in Chandigarh in 2019, Mohali police have arrested the accused.
The accused, Pawan Jangra, carried out an agreement with the victim, Puneet Singh, to organise the CCL. He lured him into spending approximately ₹3 crore, but used a vanishing ink pen to sign the agreement in Mohali in 2019.
The victim alleged that Pawan made collections on the tickets, but never shared them with him in compliance with the agreement. After the delays in payment persisted, he filed a complaint with the police. Puneet is from New Delhi, but is presently residing in Homeland Heights, Mohali.
According to the agreement, the complainant said, Pawan was supposed to arrange celebrities and sell tickets and share the profits with Puneet. A team under the “Punjab De Sher” label was constituted. Puneet spent around ₹3 crore for their transportation, boarding and lodging and was to be compensated using the ticket sales money.
On Wednesday, the accused was produced before the court, from where he was sent to a two-day police remand. Mohali police, on his disclosure statement, recovered the vanishing ink pen from Jaipur.
Sharing further details, Mohali senior superintendent of police (SSP) Sandeep Garg said, “Mohali police after thorough investigations with the help of Jaipur police and taking legal opinion, booked Pawan Jangra in July this year. He has been arrested and we have recovered the vanishing ink pen from Jaipur on his disclosure statement. He is on police remand now.”
Abhishek Arora said the accused was drawn to investing in the league given the promise of Bollywood and Pollywood celebrities and singers participating in it.
