Khanna: Man on the run after stabbing mother to death, injuring brother

On Monday evening the accused allegedly walked into his brother’s dhaba, snapped off the power line, charged at their mother and then stabbed her multiple times. When the younger brother tried to rescue her, he attacked him too. Later, he escaped, taking advantage of the darkness.

A resident of Khanna’s Libra village is on the loose after stabbing his 77-year-old mother to death and injuring his younger brother with a sharp-edged weapon, over a property dispute on Monday evening.

The accused has been identified as Parminder Singh alias Bai of Libra village of Khanna.

His younger brother, Jang Singh, who runs a dhaba, said that Parminder had been threatening them for a long time.

On Monday evening, when he was at his dhaba with his mother, Baljit Kaur, the accused walked in with a sharp-edged weapon in hand. Jang Singh said that his brother cut off the power supply to the dhaba, charged at them and then stabbed his mother multiple times.

“When I tried to rescue my mother, Parminder attacked me as well with the sharp-edged weapon. As a result, I started bleeding from the hand,” he said.

The complainant added that after the attack, his brother escaped from the spot, taking advantage of the dark.

“As my mother was bleeding profusely, I rushed her to the Khanna civil hospital. Seeing her critical state, doctors referred her to Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh, where she succumbed to the injuries on Tuesday,” he added.

Deputy superintendent of police (DSP, Khanna) Rajesh Kumar Sharma said that a case has been registered against the accused under Sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder) and 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of the Indian Penal Code at Sadar Khanna police station but he continues to be on the run.

The incident sent shockwaves across the village. With still no trace of the accused, authorities have urged anyone with information about his whereabouts to come forward and assist in the investigation.
