Ludhiana: Cops destroy 4 quintals of seized narcotics linked to 179 cases

The Ludhiana Commissionerate Police destroyed over 4 quintals of seized narcotics linked to 179 cases as part of its ongoing drive against drug trafficking and abuse.

The disposal was carried out under the supervision of the police department’s Drug Disposal Committee, with officials following prescribed scientific procedures, including controlled incineration.
Police said the seized contraband, stored in malkhanas of various police stations, was first consolidated at a designated site and destroyed after due verification.
According to officials, the disposed narcotics included nearly 4 quintals and 50 kilograms of poppy husk from 18 cases, 12.677 kilograms of heroin linked to 113 cases, and around 18.8 kilograms of ganja from 20 cases. As many as 6,011 intoxicating tablets related to 19 cases were also destroyed.
Other substances incinerated during the drive included 700 grams of charas, 4.5 kilograms of green poppy plants and 172 grams of intoxicating powder.
In total, over 4 quintals and 36 kilograms of narcotic substances, along with thousands of tablets, were disposed of in accordance with legal norms.
Commissioner of police Swapan Sharma said the exercise reflected the department’s commitment to tackling drug abuse and dismantling supply networks. He added that the crackdown on drug traffickers would be intensified and such disposal drives would be conducted regularly to ensure proper management of police storehouses.
