Mann, a two-time MP from Sangrur, will hand over his resignation to Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla in Delhi, a party leader privy to the development said. Mann, who has got elected to the state assembly from Dhuri seat in Sangrur district, will take oath as the chief minister on March 16 at Khatkar Kalan where preparations are underway for a mega event.

The ministers will be sworn in on a later date even though there were initially indications that at least eight MLAs may take oath along with Mann. In a video, Mann extended an invite to Punjabis to reach Khatkar Kalan on Wednesday, asking them to come wearing ‘basanti’ (yellow) turbans.

During his Delhi visit, Mann will also hold discussions with the party’s central leadership on the cabinet formation as well as the assembly speaker. The first session of the 16th legislative assembly is likely to be convened on Thursday to administer oath to newly elected members.
