Mercury plunges as rain brings Ludhiana residents relief

Rain brought some relief from the heat in Ludhiana on Friday, with the maximum temperature dropping by 2.3°C compared with the previous day. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the city received 25 mm of rain. The maximum temperature settled at 34.4°C, which was 1.2°C above normal. Despite the fall in the maximum temperature, the minimum temperature rose by 1°C from Thursday.

According to IMD data, Ludhiana received 229.9 mm of rainfall from June 1 to August 14. The cumulative rainfall during the period remains in the deficient category, indicating that the district has received less rainfall than the seasonal average.
The latest spell of rain is expected to provide temporary relief to residents, particularly after several days of warm and humid conditions.
The weather department has not issued any alert for thunderstorms, lightning or gusty winds for the coming days. However, it has forecast rain at a few places over the next four days.
