Militant, aide who killed CRPF jawan in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian arrested

The Jammu and Kashmir police on Sunday said to have arrested a militant and one of his associates in Saturday’s killing of an off-duty Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan in south Kashmir’s Shopian.
The police said the crime was committed on the directions of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) outfit.
“We have arrested the killer of the CRPF jawan. The weapon of offence (pistol) was recovered on his disclosure. An overground worker (OGW) who accompanied him during the terror crime also arrested,” said inspector general of police, Kashmir, Vijay Kumar in a tweet.
“The terror crime was committed on the direction of LeT commander Abid Ramzan Sheikh,” he said.
The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the law.
An off-duty CRPF jawan was shot dead by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district on Saturday.
According to officials, 34-year-old Mukhtar Ahmad Dohi was fired at by militants near his residence. He succumbed to his injuries while on way to a hospital.
The incident came three days after officials recovered the body of 28-year-old missing army jawan, Sameer Ahmad Malla who had come home on leave. Police said they were investigating the case and were looking into the possible role of militants in Malla’s death.
The police have identified the militant as Rukhsar Sadiq Thoker, a resident of Rangmarg-Sedow, who had killed the CRPF personnel Mukhtar Ahmad Doie on Saturday at Check Chotipora area of Shopian.
A police spokesperson said that Thoker disclosed the identity of another militant associate who facilitated him in the commission of crime.
“He has been identified as Amir Ahmad Dewan of Bohrihallan, Shopian who too was arrested and on his disclosure motorcycle (Pulsar) used in the commission of crime was also recovered, “ the spokesperson said.
The police said that during further questioning, Rukhsar Sadiq confessed that he is a close associate of active terrorist Abid Ramzan Sheikh self-styled commander of proscribed outfit LeT and is hybrid terrorist of the said organisation.
“Furthermore, he revealed that he along with his associate had committed the crime on the directions of said Abid Ramzan Sheikh in order to spread the terror atmosphere in the area. Investigation in the case is going on, further leads are expected, “ the spokesman said.
There has been a spurt of targeted killings in Kashmir in less than two weeks. Shabir Ahmad Mir, a sarpanch from south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, was gunned down by militants on Friday. On March 9, an independent sarpanch, Sameer Bhat, was shot dead on the outskirts of Srinagar. A week earlier, militants killed an independent panchayat member, Mohammad Yaqub Dar, in the Srandoo area of Kulgam.
The attacks come even as the security forces have intensified their counterinsurgency measures against militants.
On Saturday, police and army had said that four militants, including a Pakistani commander of the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), were killed and another was arrested after three separate encounters in parts of Jammu & Kashmir. The encounters took place at Ganderbal, Handwara and Pulwama areas of Kashmir, an official added.
4 militant associates arrested in Pulwama
Police in southern district of Pulwama have arrested four militant associates affiliated with proscribed outfit Jaish e Mohammad(JeM) .
The spokesman said that during the investigation of case FIR No. 50 and 51 of 2022 of Police Station Pulwama, it was established that four youth were actively associated with proscribed terror outfit JeM and providing logistic support, transportation and other facilities for commission of terrorist activities.
The arrested persons have been identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad Rather, a resident of Chewa Kallan, Naseer Ahmad Malik, a resident of Wasoora, Rayees Ahmad Sheikh,a resident of Khanpora Newa and Yawar Rashid,a resident of Gudoora Pulwama.
