A car rammed into a railing and hit an electricity pole installed on the divider at the accident-prone curve near Gurdwara Mata Sunder Kaur in Sector 70 on Airport Road, Mohali, on Wednesday evening. Though the car was majorly damaged, no fatality was reported.

Tagged as a ‘black spot’, the curve, which lies on the dividing road between Sectors 70 and 77 in Mohali, has seen 100 accidents, in which 12 people have died, since it was constructed in 2009 .

Accidents here form a major chunk of the overall mishaps on the 18-km Airport Road according to Mohali police.

Naveen Pal, SHO at Mataur police station, said, “We didn’t receive any formal complaint and no case was registered. No fatality or information regarding injury to any passenger was received”.

The gurdwara management had last month agreed to give up the land and relocate, which will allow the engineering wing of GMADA to start straightening the road. But, the agreement is yet to be signed.

Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) had offered the gurdwara management land for relocation in front of Gurdwara Singh Shaheedan in Sohana.
