A 23-year-old Kanwariya was killed while another one was injured as their motorcycle crashed into a truck during an attempt to overtake it. The incident took place near Kiratpur village in Pinjore on Monday when the two, identified as Ganesh Kumar, 23, a native of Kahua village in Darbhanga, Bihar, and Akash Kumar, 22, were returning to Baddi after collecting holy water from Haridwar.

Complainant Deepak Kumar, who witnessed the mishap, said the duo was trying to overtake the truck but the driver of the heavy vehicle suddenly swerved to their side, leading to the collision. As the two youngsters fell on the road, the rear tyres of the truck allegedly ran over them, leaving them critically injured.

The youngsters were initially taken to a government hospital in Pinjore, from where they were referred to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, where Ganesh was declared dead.

The complainant managed to jot down the truck’s registration number – HP12AA8445.

A case under Sections 281 (rash or negligent driving), 106 (causing death by negligence) and 125-A (act endangering human life) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was registered on Wednesday against the driver, who is yet to be identified.
