PUTA protests dismantling of concrete pavement outside V-C office

Protesters said that the structure should be restored as the dismantling is being seen as a move to discourage any assembly outside the office

Panjab University Teachers Association (PUTA) has written to the PU vice-chancellor after officials dismantled the concrete pavement in front of the V-C office on Tuesday.

They said that the structure should be restored as the dismantling is being seen as a move to discourage any assembly outside the office. The spot is used by teachers, students and non-teaching staff to organise protests and to air their grievances. PUTA called this move a “threat to democracy” and held a protest on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, students had gathered at the spot and were seen questioning the workers dismantling the pavement. The workers there claimed that horticulture work is being undertaken at the site.
