2 held for killing Pathankot shopkeeper in Punjab
The victim, Dharinder Singh of Chali Guhana village, was beaten and hacked to death over a minor dispute in the Akhwana village of Pathankot on May 21.
The Pathankot Police claimed to have arrested two accused of a brutal murder case of a shopkeeper after chasing the culprits across 11 states of the country.

The accused have been identified as Kushal Singh, alias Kalu from Shapurkandi and Vishal Singh in Kanpur village in Shapurkandi, Pathankot.
Disclosing the investigation, senior superintendent of police (SSP) Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh said a team led by superintendent of police (SP-detective) Manoj Kumar was formed to crack the case. Upon receiving a statement from the victim’s spouse Sheetal, the police team acted swiftly and launched an investigation, meticulously analysing the CCTV footage. This crucial evidence played a pivotal role in quickly identifying the culprits and bringing the accused to justice.
The police team followed the digital footprints as the two accused continuously changed locations to evade arrest. The chase spanned across 11 states, including Punjab, Haryana, New Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Kolkata, and Andhra Pradesh. The chase finally culminated in the apprehension of the criminals from Sanjeevi Nagar in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, the SSP said.
A case has been registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 307 (attempt to murder), 327 (voluntarily causing hurt to extort property), 458 (house trespass), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 148 (rioting, armed with a deadly weapon), and 149 (unlawful assembly) at the Shahpurkandi Police Station.
During the initial inquiry, the victims claimed that the event unfolded when the accused, in an inebriated state, reached the victim’s establishment. An argument erupted when the victim expressed concern over their excessive intoxication, leading to a distressing sequence of events, police said.The accused called their accomplices and launched a merciless assault on the shopkeeper with sharp-edged weapons. The attack was brutal and unrelenting, leaving the victim in a deeply harrowing condition, and he succumbed on the way to the hospital, the police official added.
