Book those involved in social media hate speech, SGPC tells top cop

Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee officials on Friday wrote a letter to Amritsar Police commissioner Naunihal Singh seeking action against the social media handles disseminating objectionable content against the Sikh religion and gurus.

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) officials on Friday wrote a letter to Amritsar Police commissioner Naunihal Singh seeking action against the social media handles disseminating objectionable content against the Sikh religion and gurus.

In a press release issued here, the SGPC secretary Partap Singh said, “The SGPC has noticed some handles on Instagram which are uploading derogatory content hurting Sikh religious sentiments. Some mischievous and communal elements are behind this practice which is aimed at spreading communal hatred and vitiating brotherhood and peaceful atmosphere”.

“So, in the letter, we have demanded registration of FIR against these elements and these handles must be banned,” he added.
