Three arrested with 535 gm heroin, ₹55,000 drug money in Ludhiana

Two cases registered after the accused were arrested with heroin from Ludhiana’s New Janata Nagar and Dhillon Nagar

Police on Monday arrested three persons in two separate cases after recovering 535 gm of heroin and 55,000 worth of drug money from their possession.

Giving out details, commissioner of police Mandeep Singh Sidhu said a man identified as Baljit Singh of Mohalla Gobind Nagar, Shimlapuri, has been arrested from Dhillon Nagar, Lohara, with 265 gm of heroin, empty pouches, a weighing scale and drug money 25,000 from his possession.

A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at the Daba police station against the accused. Sidhu said police are questioning the accused to trace the origin of the heroin.

In the second instance, the police arrested two accused for allegedly peddling drugs from New Janta Nagar. The accused have been identified as Rashpal Singh of Mohalla Gobind Nagar and Kuljeet Singh of Kalgidhar Marg, Shimlapuri.

The police recovered 270 gm heroin and drug money 30,000 from the accused during checking. The police said that the accused were arrested when they were waiting to sell the drug to their customers. The police have also recovered a bike from their possession.

A case under sections of the NDPS Act has been registered at Shimlapuri police station against the accused. Rashpal Singh is already facing trial in a case of drug peddling lodged against him in January 2021.

Two accused held with 5 kg opium

Sadar police, meanwhile, arrested two accused after recovering 5 kg opium from their possession. The accused have been identified as Ramanpreet Singh and Prakash Singh, of Panni Wala Fatta village of Sri Muktsar Sahib.

The police chief said a checkpoint had been set up near Kheri police post following a tip-off. The accused tried to dodge the police, but the team nabbed them and recovered 5 kg opium from their possession. The team also impounded the motorcycle being used by the duo.

A case under NDPS Act was registered against the accused at the Sadar police station. Ramanpreet is already facing trial in a case of assault lodged against him at Sri Muktsar Sahib.
