Amritsar: Balwinder Kaur, mother of jailed radical leader and Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh, confronted chief minister Bhagwant Mann during his “Shukrana Yatra” in Rayya in Amritsar on Thursday.
Balwinder Kaur, mother of Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh meets Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann.
The CM was leading the procession when Kaur approached him, held his hand, and questioned why her son had not been brought back to Punjab despite changes in his National Security Act (NSA) status. She asked why an elected member of Parliament was still being kept away from the state.
According to eyewitnesses, the CM stepped back without responding after realising her identity, while security personnel intervened and restrained her.
She also raised slogans against the state government before being taken aside by police officials.
The incident triggered sharp political reactions. Representatives associated with Waris Punjab De alleged that the episode reflects the government’s inability to address public concerns over Amritpal Singh’s detention and accused the administration of suppressing dissent.
