A crackdown on snatchers on Friday led Delhi police to unravel the murder of a minor in east Delhi’s Geeta Colony, who had been killed and buried last Sunday. Police said that the juvenile was killed over a three-year-old issue, during which he had slapped one of the six arrested suspects.
The police identified the suspects as Amanpreet Singh, Neeraj, Lavjeet Singh, Bhavit, Arjun Dhingra, and Rahul, all residents of Shahadra and nearby areas.
Deputy commissioner of police (Shahadra) Amit Sharma said during a crackdown on street crime, a police team from Geeta Colony had detained four men – Neeraj, Lavjeet, Bhavit and Arjun. A loaded countrymade pistol was recovered from Neeraj. The four men were then detained to question them about the source of the weapon.
“During questioning they disclosed that they had killed a minor on September 29. They said they had buried him in Yamuna Khadar area. On their instance we exhumed the decomposed body of the minor and sent it for autopsy. The men also told us about the involvement of prime suspect Amanpreet and his aide Rahul, and they were arrested,” Sharma said.
The officer said that the murder came to light only four days later as the boy’s parents, who work as contractual labourers, had not filed any missing complaint.
