Dehradun: Man sent to jail for alleged rape and murder of 2-year-old girl

A 45-year-old man allegedly killed a 2-year-old girl after raping her in Bageshwar district in Uttarakhand. The minor child was a native of Nepal and the incident took place on June 18.
Police solved the case on Sunday after the victim’s sister-in-law revealed the truth to the authorities despite threats made by the accused to not do so.
After the girl went missing and the family found blood stains around their house on June 18, the villagers suspected she may have been attacked by a tiger and it could have taken the body to the jungle.
Upon receiving an alert, the police reached the spot and started a search operation. They recovered the body of the girl in a gadhera (small river tributary).

Police found strangulation marks around her neck and the medical report also confirmed rape.
Subsequently, a case was registered and the police began its probe.
“On June 25, the victim’s sister-in-law revealed to the police that Dheeraj Tiwari, a private school teacher, who is the son of their landlord, had raped and killed the victim,” said J Dhakriyal, station house officer of Bageshwar police station.
A fresh case was registered against the accused under sections 376(2)(n) and 506 of the Indian Penal Code.
She said the accused had also raped her several times.
The police, then arrested the accused. He was produced in a local court and sent to jail.
In her complaint, the victim’s sister-in-law mentioned that Tiwari on June 18 came to their house and tried to rape her but when she resisted, he went to the adjoining room where her sister-in-law was present.
Thereafter, the accused killed the victim, raped her, and hid her body under a stone in the gadhera.
The complainant said she saw the accused carrying her sister-in-law’s body out of the room. The accused had threatened to kill their family if she told anyone about the incident.
