Delhi Cantonment, Sabzi Mandi, and Narela — the three stations in Delhi that will be refurbished — will be redeveloped with upgraded passenger amenities, ample circulation areas, and connectivity options.

“This will change the economic and geographical landscape of central, northwest, and southwest Delhi and help address long-standing traffic and related issues,” lieutenant governor VK Saxena posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Saxena, along with Union ministers Meenakshi Lekhi and Ramdas Athawale, participated in the ceremony at Delhi Cantt station.

The NCR stations that fall under the Delhi division and will be revamped include Sonipat, Shamli, Rohtak, Pataudi Road, Narwana, Modi Nagar, Mansa, Jind, Faridabad, Ghaziabad and Bahadurgarh.

According to officials, the Ghaziabad station will be redeveloped at a cost of 364 crore over the next 30 months.

“The Vijay Nagar and city sides of the Ghaziabad station will be redeveloped and modernised under the plan. Among other things, a new foot over-bridge, electric sub-stations, and parking for vehicles will be built. The plan also includes the development of a concourse level to connect both building sides from the Vijay Nagar to the city side,” said a railway official involved in the project.

Addressing the gathering at the Pataudi Road railway station, Gurugram MP Rao Inderjit Singh said there has been unprecedented development in rail services and infrastructure in south Haryana in the last nine years. Haryana governor Bandaru Dattatreya was also present during the event.

“Due to the dedicated rail freight corridor, new employment and self-employment opportunities are becoming available in the region. At present, a new rail corridor is being constructed with Kundli–Manesar–Palwal at a cost of about 5,600 crore, which will give a new impetus to the development of this area,” said Singh, adding that the upgradation of Pataudi station will ensure better facilities and commute for passengers of the area.

At Delhi’s Sabzi Mandi railway station, BJP MP Harsh Vardhan participated in the ceremony while Union minister General VK Singh participated in the event at Ghaziabad railway station.

Northern Railway general manager, Shobhan Chaudhuri had on Friday said that the facilities planned under ABSS include smooth access to railway stations by removal of unwanted structures, improved lighting, better-circulating areas, upgraded parking spaces, divyangjan (differently abled) friendly infrastructure, and environmentally conducive buildings by using green or renewable energy.
