Delhi LG gives nod to prosecute ‘Sulli Deals’ accused
The ‘auctioning’ of Muslim women on social media platforms in 2021 had created massive outrage and earned severe criticism from all sections of the society
Delhi lieutenant governor (LG) V K Saxena has granted sanction to prosecute the main accused in the ‘Sulli Deals’ case in which Muslim women were reportedly ‘auctioned’ online. The move will facilitate the prosecution of the main accused in the “Sullideals” case, Aumkareshwar Thakur, according to officials aware of the development.

The Delhi police will now be able to prosecute Thakur, who had created the Sullideals App and Sullideals Twitter handle that reportedly indulged in virtual auctioning of Muslim women on social media platforms, with the aim of insulting them and the Muslim community.
A first information report (FIR) was registered in this connection on July 7, 2021.
According to an official aware of the development, the LG is “of the considered view that a prima facie case is made out against the accused, and therefore sanction is granted for prosecuting the accused for the commission of the offences” detailed in the FIR.
