A 70-year-old man was arrested for allegedly murdering his 55-year-old son-in-law by attacking him with a stick during their altercation over an unpaid loan in outer Delhi’s Kanjhawala last week, police said on Monday.

The deceased, identified by his single name as Aglu, and his wife Savita had taken a loan of ₹30,000 from Savita’s father Dinesh Sharma, to construct their house, said deputy commissioner of police (Rohini) Shashank Jaiswal.
“The couple was not able to repay the loan despite repeated demands from Sharma. It led to a heated altercation between Sharma and his son-in-law on March 16. During the quarrel, the elderly man attacked Aglu with a stick and Aglu suffered serious head injuries. He was rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial hospital and later to Safdarjung hospital, where he succumbed to injuries during treatment. We have arrested Sharma and recovered the stick used in the crime,” said DCP Jaiswal.
