Sultanpuri accident: Anjali’s family home robbed, TV, mattress stolen

On Monday, deputy commissioner of police (Rohini) Guriqbal Singh said the Aman Vihar police station received a call at 8.30pm, regarding a burglary at a house in Karan Vihar.

Days after 20-year-old Anjali Kumari was killed in the gruesome Sultanpuri accident, her family home was robbed, senior police officers aware of the matter said on Monday, adding that a case has been registered and a probe is on.

A Maruti Suzuki Baleno car hit Kumari on January 1 when she was on her way home on her scooter. Kumari’s leg got stuck in the underside of the car, and she was dragged for nearly three hours on a stretch of over 14 kilometres.

On Monday, deputy commissioner of police (Rohini) Guriqbal Singh said the Aman Vihar police station received a call at 8.30pm, regarding a burglary at a house in Karan Vihar. “A team immediately reached the spot and found the latch of the door was broken. A crime team was called, the scene of crime was inspected minutely, and exhibits were lifted,” the DCP said.

Police also recorded the statement of Kumari’s grandmother Kanta, the complainant in the case, who said that an LED TV, some clothes, and utensils have been stolen. A case under sections 457 (lurking house-trespass or house-breaking by night) and 380 (theft in dwelling house) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered, officers said.

Kumari’s uncle Prem Singh said ever since his niece died on January 1, the family has been living at his residence in Mangolpuri. “On Sunday night, Anjali’s mother Rekha was hospitalised and her sister and brothers were at the grandmother’s house in Mangolpuri. Rekha’s neighbours saw the latch broken in the morning and informed us. When Anjali’s sister Preeti went, we found that a TV and mattresses were gone,” he said.

The family has alleged that while there was police presence at the Karan Vihar and Manolpuri residences, no officers were present on Sunday night. Despite repeated attempts, Delhi Police did not respond to the allegation.
